La larghezza di banda di arresto si riferisce all'ampiezza della banda di arresto, ovvero all'intervallo di frequenza compreso tra le frequenze di taglio superiore e inferiore. I filtri elimina-banda hanno diversi tassi di attenuazione, che vengono utilizzati per rappresentare il grado di attenuazione del segnale nella banda di arresto rispetto al segnale nella banda passante. Alcuni filtri elimina-banda possono presentare ondulazioni nella banda passante, ovvero variazioni del guadagno del segnale in uno specifico intervallo di frequenza. Le ondulazioni possono essere controllate attraverso la progettazione e l'ottimizzazione del filtro per garantire la qualità del segnale nella banda passante. I filtri elimina-banda hanno in genere specifiche impedenze di ingresso e di uscita per adattarsi ai requisiti di impedenza della sorgente del segnale e del carico.
I filtri elimina-banda sono ampiamente utilizzati in diversi settori, come i sistemi di comunicazione, le apparecchiature audio, gli amplificatori, i ricevitori radio, ecc.
